Position Summary

Support the Stamping department by repairing and maintaining automotive press stamping dies. Perform complex die repairs and modifications (weld, die spot, design changes. etc), identify concerns, and recommend countermeasures. Perform corrective, scheduled, and preventive maintenance on die equipment.

Position/Function Description

The position/function owner is responsible for skilled and professional execution of tool maintenance activities.

Core description of the position responsibilities is as follows:

  • Proper disassembly of tools / transfer and progressive dies
  • Inspection of tools according to results (tool card, prototype strip, prototype parts)
  • Extraction and maintenance of parts following analysis
  • Proper re-installation of parts
  • Try out of the maintenance die in the press
  • Sharpening of punch and die
  • Handling of external parts at the machine shops
  • Recognition and exchange of expendable parts
  • Lubrication of sliding surfaces
  • Polishing of bending/pulling jaws
  • Specification of tool maintenance, i.e. definition of die cutting plates prior to surface grinding
  • Optimizations to increase strokes per minute
  • Proper use of maintenance resources
  • Proper use of lifting devices and hoisting gears
  • Proper tool storage
  • Proper operation and service of smaller machine tools

Qualifications

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 5 plus years job related experience
  • TIG welding experience required
  • Knowledge of pneumatic cylinders and use of stamping die applications.
  • Knowledge of proximity sensors and applications for die protection.
  • Ability to read and interpret die blueprints
  • Experience with hand & power tools

Education

  • High School diploma/GED
  • 2 year Technical Degree preferred

Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of manufacturing software.
